Questions and answers
Clear answers to the questions Kelowna and West Kelowna homeowners ask before they test for radon.
A naturally occurring radioactive gas, formed by the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. It cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, so a test is the only way to know your level.
Ben runs a short term test: an annually calibrated, C-NRPP listed continuous radon monitor is placed in your home for 4 days, plus 4 hours of calibration time, and your report gives an hourly breakdown of the radon levels.
A standalone short term test is $249.95. Added to a home inspection it is $199.95.
A radon test is not required to sell a home. A property disclosure statement only asks whether the home has been tested. A C-NRPP test gives you a result to put on it, and a low reading on record can be a good selling feature.
Radon levels can be reduced with a mitigation system installed by a C-NRPP certified mitigation professional. Before you decide on mitigation, a long term test is recommended, because radon levels go up and down over time. Ben runs short term tests only, and what you do next is up to you.
Yes. The Air Quality Package pairs a C-NRPP radon test with an air quality mould test for $50 off. Use the code AIRQ in the online scheduler.
Radon testing is offered in Kelowna and West Kelowna, because Ben places and collects every monitor himself.
